Summer Term 2023

Please see the Curriculum plan for the SUMMER TERM to see our intended learning.

We continue to be intrigued by our class novel Cogheart by Peter Bunzl which we are finding both mysterious and exciting.

Within our History and Geography work we are exploring the idea of Journeys.  In History we look at the significance of jouneys made by the likes of Sir Walter Raleigh, the reason for people travelling on the Titanic to the journeys made on the Empire Windrush.

In Geography the journeys we investigate are around where a variety of our products come from, exploring industry and the impact of importing and exporting goods.

We look forward to our curriculum learning but we are also excited for the many other learning opportunities on offer during the term ahead.  We will be putting lots of effort into Sports Day, Northwich sings and our other performing opportunities such as the village Gala day.  We are also very excited to mark the momentous occasion of the King's Coronation over the next few weeks.

What we did during the Spring term!

We read the following books about Malala Yousafzai and her fight for the right for girls to be educated.  This has culminated in writing an autobiography in role as Malala.  We have found this book fascinating and it has raised some important social and cultural questions which we have been eager to explore.

This term we enjoyed reading Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman where we explored reading the genre of Norse mythology.  We will continue to work on our inference and justification skills.

We have also explored the text Arthur and The Golden Rope by Joe Todd Stanton and used this as  inspiration for our own writing.  We have explored how we can develop our own exciting plot: a journey, a quest or a series of trials for our hero.

In History we were fascinated by the Vikings and carefully considered the key line of enquiry of  "Would the Vikings do anything for money?"

In Geography we investigated the Alpine Regions.  The children considered how the Alps were formed and explored both the physical and human geography of the area.

We are excited to share more of our intended learning for the Spring Term, please click here!

In Autumn 2

In English, we learnt how to use direct speech to advance the action in our narrative writing and how to use noun phrases effectively in descriptions. The Lost and Happy Endings, by Carol Ann Duffy was our focus text. In our reading lessons, we used Hansel and Gretal by Neil Gaiman to focus on authors' language choices and the effect of figuartive laguage.
